Our competing treadmills today are the Nordictrack Incline Trainer X7i and the Freemotion Incline Trainer.
Incline trainers are the same things as treadmills, but with the ability to raise up to 40% incline. Many incline trainers sacrifice a lot of their regular treadmill stuff to provide the 40% incline. When you look at the specs of incline trainers, they’re usually unimpressive for the price class of normal treadmills that they’re in. The reason is, that manufacturing companies have to put a lot of extra parts to make the extra incline, and have to pay extra attention to different parts that they normally wouldn’t have to worry about.
The Nordictrack Incline trainer X7i is the most spoiled treadmill on the market. It gets praised and advertised more than any other treadmill ever has been. Nordictrack even gave it its own website. The advertising has obviously been working since it is one of the top selling treadmills on the market as well. The Freemotion incline trainer on the hand, just kind of sits there quietly waiting for some attention. It doesn’t get a lot. So the two treadmills we’re comparing today definitely grew up in different environments.
The Nordictrack has a 3.0 CHP motor. The engine on these incline trainer is on the back, which changes up mechanics a bit, but not much. It’s still the same concept, except that your feet are feeding the belt into the rollers, rather than pulling the belt out. The Freemotion has a 2.25 CHP motor which is quite a significant difference seeing that they’re both the same price.
The Nordictrack has a 350 lb weight capacity which exceeds Freemotion’s 300 lb capacity. The speed of the Nordictrack can go up to 12MPH while the Freemotion can only reach 10MPH. Both machines use a reflex cushioning system. As far as comfort goes, they’re about the same. They both have a good solid feel to them. The console and technology of the Nordictrack is much more advanced than the Freemotion. The Nordictrack has a 7″ full color touch screen that utilizes Ifit and Google Maps to help you run any trail in the world, or use the Jillian Michaels personal trainer programs. The freemotion does have Ifit also, but can’t quite utilize it as well as the Nordictrack. The screen on the Freemotion is a small green LCD display.
I’m just going to stop now and go to the specs before the Nordictrack gets any further ahead.

Both have a somewhat skimpy warranty, but it’s the best you’ll find for incline trainers. If you’ve used incline trainers you know how effective they can be for building your legs and cardio quickly. The Nordictrack Incline Trainer X7i is the obvious choice when put against the Freemotion Incline trainer. The Nordictrack wins quite easily.
