Rowing Machine Review

Last Updated: 4/29/2022

Whether you are large or small, beginner or advanced, this bike offers a wide range of possibilities based on your personal preferences. From the seat and handle placements to the levels of resistance this bike offers, you’ll be able to get a great workout regardless of your size and fitness level.

Here at Treadmill Reviews, we found that the MYX Fitness Bike separates itself from other bikes on the market with a lower price point, an enormous amount of resistance, and the uniquely personalized heart rate training experience that the interface provides.

Who The MYX Fitness Bike is Built For

The MYX Fitness stationary bike is built for a wide range of cyclists.

Beginners

If you are new to cycling, this MYX Fitness Bike does an exceptional job creating a welcoming, warm and personalized experience. The instructors are non-intimidating, professional, relatable, and positive. There is no leaderboard or intimidating athletes, making it more about you and less about them. The interface will also test your fitness to calibrate your current fitness level, ask you about how you plan to use the bike, and then pair you with classes that will best fit your goals.

Advanced Athletes

Even if you already know what you are doing when it comes to cycling, the endless options for classes and scenic rides make for an immersive cycling experience. Plus, advanced athletes can benefit from hooking up to the heart rate monitor and testing current fitness levels as a way to train in specific zones and compete against yourself.

Large Riders

Larger, taller riders will love the MYX Fitness Bike because of the wide range of adjustments for the seat and the resistance. It is compatible with those as tall as 6’8”. Plus, the weight capacity is 350lbs, which is more than the 300lb capacity of the Peloton. The 41 lb friction-resistance offers up to 100 levels of resistance and when turned all the way up, it becomes almost impossible to cycle. So, even if you are a larger rider, the MYX Fitness bike can still give you a great cardio and strength workout.

Those who value coach-led classes and motivation

Are you someone who wants to be entertained and motivated to get on your stationary bike? The MYX Fitness bike’s high-tech interface will easily do the trick. The screen is crisp, user-friendly, and intuitive. You can customize workouts, instructors, and music to keep you motivated day in and day out.

Recovery

If you are recovering from an injury or have joint pain, cycling can be a great, low-impact workout.

Why We Love the MYX Fitness Bike

Price

The listing price and subscription are significantly lower than other bikes with comparable specs and interfaces, which allows those that may be concerned about the price tag to still get a great quality bike at a lower cost.

Accommodates an Array of Riders

As we mentioned before, with the wide range of seat adjustment options for riders up to 6’8” and a weight capacity of 350lbs, this bike is great for larger, taller riders. We think this is valuable, especially considering other bikes tend to cap out around 300 lbs and 6’4” height capacities.

Personalization

During set up, the MYX Fitness bike asks for age, weight, goals, etc to estimate the number of calories you will burn. Then, it will encourage you to do a “Calibration Ride”, which will test your current fitness levels. Finally, the integrated technology will create a variety of heart rate zones for your current fitness level to practice training in, which will ultimately help you to get the most out of your workouts and increase your fitness level with time and practice! While other bikes simply tell you which cadence and resistance to workout in, this bike relies on teaching users how to train in specific heart rate zones. We think this is a uniquely cool feature.

Non-Intimidating Environment

While other bikes have a club-like studio feel, with intimidating instructors and leaderboards, MYX Fitness takes a different angle on motivation by creating a welcoming, warm, and positive environment. No need to keep up with anyone else other than yourself. The MYX bike is all about self-improvement.

Limitations And Things To Consider Before Purchasing The MYX Fitness Bike

Friction Resistance

There are two types of resistance that you will find on stationary bikes: friction and magnetic. Friction will likely require maintenance where magnetic does not, because of the cotton pads that rub against the flywheel for resistance. Also, because of these pads, friction resistance is not completely silent. However, unless you are looking for a completely silent ride, the noise is minimal, especially with headphones or the monitor screen turned on, and shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. Finally, friction resistance does not allow users to turn to an exact resistance, so if you are looking to be told exactly what resistance to be on, this bike won’t do it. Instead, the instructors will encourage you to work in specific heart rate zones and adjust the friction accordingly.

No “Just Ride”

There is not a simple way to just get on and ride quickly on the MYX. However, there are tons of scenic routes, MYX Content videos, and Newsy which allow you to ride at your own pace in a coach-free zone. We would like to see improvement in this area.

Subscription Service

The MYX Fitness bike cannot operate without a subscription, which is a separate fee from purchasing the bike. Most of what the bike has to offer is located in the subscription service. However, MYX’s subscription is more cost-effective than others on the market and worth every penny to get on-demand workouts at your fingertips.

How Much Does the MYX Fitness Bike Cost?

This bike is listed at around $1300 at the time of this review. This includes free shipping.

You can also upgrade to the Plus package, which includes a set of hand weights, foam roller, kettlebell, and oversized workout mat for just about $1500. This is a great of the off-the-bike workouts included in the subscription and we think the price bump is very reasonable.

The subscription is $29/month which is priced lower than other bike subscriptions which go up to $50 a month.

  • Footprint:

The footprint and dimensions of the MYX Fitness bike are comparable to other stationary bikes on the market, taking up 3’4” L X 1’7” W in space.

    Weight Capacity:

The weight capacity on this MYX is an impressive 350 lbs, considering other bikes, such as the Peloton have a capacity of 305.

    Height Capacity:

The height capacity also sets itself apart from other bikes with a capacity of riders up to 6’8”. Its seat and handles are adjustable, making the cycling position comfortable for a wide range of users and abilities.

    Pedals:

Another awesome feature is that the pedals on the MYX allow for the option to ride in regular athletic shoes with adjustable straps or SPD clip-ins.

The seat on the MYX is a standard cycling seat that has slightly more cushioning. We found it to be comfortable. It is adjustable in height and depth, allowing you to customize your ride and positioning based on your liking.

the 41 lb flywheel and friction resistance are extremely durable and strong. This is especially important if you are a larger rider looking for a bike to give lots of resistance.

  • Screen:

The large touchscreen is crisp, clear, and functions well. We would like to see improvement in the bulkiness of it, but overall, it is not a big deal. The speakers are loud. The 360° swivel makes working out on the bike or the floor very convenient.

    Wifi:

This bike required power and wifi to access the workouts and interface. It can connect wireless headphones via Bluetooth.

    Built-in workouts:

One of the large benefits of this bike is the variety of instructor-led classes, scenic views, and workout options on and off the bike that it is equipped with. Whether you want an intense, interval workout, or to bike at your own pace, the MYX gets you a great, versatile workout.

    Heart rate monitor:

This bike comes with an arm heart rate monitor that connects via Bluetooth. We love this compared to a chest strap because it doesn’t get sweaty or uncomfortable while breathing hard. Because the bike has friction resistance, the majority of classes will rely on the monitor to help you get into the correct training zone.

    Apple Health Compatible:

This bike is unique from others on the market because it connects to Apple Health. This allows you to get your sweat on and close your rings at the same time.

    Chromecast/Apple TV Compatible:

Unlike other bikes on the market, the MYX allows users to cast the screen of the bike onto their TV via Apple TV or Chromecast. This feature allows you to view your classes and workouts on a larger screen at your convenience!

    Additional Equipment:

With the purchase of the Plus package for an additional $200, MYX offers the option of off-the-bike equipment such as dumbbells, kettlebells, foam rollers, and oversized mat.

    MYX Fitness Bike Subscription Service

The subscription service is an additional $29/mo and includes most of what this bike has to offer. One unique thing is that the MYX app can be cast via apple tv or Chromecast, allowing you to do off-the-bike classes on your tv! The app also connects to Apple Health, which allows you to connect with friends and close out your rings while riding the bike.

    Class Varieties:
  • Bike
  • Cross-train
  • Recovery
  • HIIT floor workouts
  • Newsy
  • Variety of music from hip hop to country
  • Mat chats

  • Bottom Line Review of the MYX Fitness Bike

Overall, we are very pleased with the MYX Fitness stationary bike. After testing it against others on the market, we love the welcoming and non-intimidating environment that the classes offer. We think the interface is easy to navigate, clean, and clear. Because of its high weight and height capacities, we love that this bike allows for a wide range of riders to enjoy a good cycling workout. Some considerations to take before purchasing are noting that it is friction resistant, rather than magnetic and that it does require a subscription service to access all the features that are included. However, for the price and features that this bike includes, we think it’s worth it. Whether you are small, big, beginner, or advanced, the MYX Fitness bike is sure to fit all of your indoor cycling needs.
